Folks from across the Suncoast will be gathering at Beneva Christian Church to both give and receive at a community event called The Purge.
“It’s an amazing donation event where people come and donate items that are gently used, that they are not using anymore and they can shop for free and then it opens to the public, where the public can come and shop for free as well.” says Carolyn Carino Purge Coordinator
The purge started right before the pandemic where about ten people brought items they were not using anymore for others to just come and take.
“When you think about all the people in our community that do have needs and are just moving up from one size of their children’s clothes or toys they are growing out of, why are we going and buying brand new things all of the time?” – says Carino
If you are donating items, come between 8:30 and 10 AM.
“I recommend a little earlier in that time slot. You will be setting up your own items.” – says Carino
Volunteers will be helping to help you place those items in the right spots
“If you are coming at the public open time, we are opening at 10 AM to the public and we end at 12 PM.” – says Carino
“I think the huge significance of the event is everyone in the local community coming together, so I feel like you really see everybody taking their time to go through their house to donate to other people in the local community. Helping families that are your neighbor or people you might go to school with or kids.” – says Gabby Brown Purge Committee Member
