SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN) — In the last school board meeting, the board voted 4-1 on a resolution to recommend Bridget Ziegler resign.

Bridgett Ziegler is facing backlash after her husband GOP chairman Christian Ziegler is under investigation  for  rape accusations

In the investigation, Bridgett admitted the couple had a previous sexual relationship with the accuser.

Gov. Ron Desantis is the only one who can remove Ziegler from the board.

Support Our Schools has launched an campaign urging the community to write a letter to DeSantis asking for Zieglers removal.

“The request for her to step down from the board is not just based on this latest scandal. It is in fact an entire laundry list. The hypocrisy was really the straw that broke the camel’s back,” Lisa Schurr, the co-founder of Support our Education said.

Schurr said that she hopes DeSantis receives letters from all across the United States.

School Board Member Tom Edwards said he wrote his own letter for all the other board member to sign asking for Ziegler’s removal. He said they refused to sign it.

“I was assuming if they are asking for her resignation, why wouldn’t they take the extra step?” Edwards said.
